Borzoi are large sighthounds originating in 17th century Russia and were the beloved pets and hunting partners of Russian aristocracy. Their narrow and streamlined body is built for speed and athleticism. It is their instinct to chase almost anything that moves, but they are very sweet and gentle in nature. Borzoi are generally very quiet dogs that enjoy long naps on the couch, or laying in the sun. They make great family pets and as a bonus are really pretty to look at :)
First, I highly recommend you attend the Borzoi Club of America National Specialty (or any dog show) so you can meet a Borzoi in person and the breeders who love them. Once you get an idea of the type of dog that you like, form a relationship with a breeder.
A large fenced yard is preferred when we are considering selling a puppy, but not required. Borzoi typically aren’t “hyper” dogs, but they do need regular exercise. Borzoi shed heavily, so that is also something to keep in mind. They usually eat 4-6 cups of food a day and can weigh over 100lbs.
Our puppies are $1500-$2000. This is because we spend all year traveling to competitions, testing our dogs soundness, in body and mind. We also health test our dogs to make sure they are free of genetic disease. Our puppies come from long lines of champions in the field and in the ring. You can be sure you’re buying a strong, beautiful, healthy pup. If you are interested in learning how to show or run your future Borzoi, we would be happy to help you along the way. We will always be a reliable source of information and help to our puppy buyers, and we will always take our puppy back for any reason.
